Response to NSW Floods

Since the flooding in the NSW northern rivers (in February and March 2022) DRCN chaplains have been engaging with the needs of disaster affected individuals and communities.

Chaplains, both local and out of area, were deployed to evacuation and recovery centres in the far north of the state and to centres to the west and South of Sydney and in the Central West of the state. The DRCN has worked alongside our Community Partners at the direction of Disaster Welfare Services and Resilience NSW.

A new body has been formed to bring together the leaders of state and territory-based volunteer disaster recovery and emergency chaplaincy networks from across Australia.  The Australian Volunteer Emergency Chaplaincy Alliance (AVECA) was formed through the interaction of the leaders over a period of years.
